The Book of Wisdom 1 they who said among themselves, thinking not aright:＂Brief and troublous is our lifetime; neither is there any remedy for man's dying, nor is anyone known to have come back from the nether world. 恶人们胡思乱想自语说：“我们的生命又短促，又多愁；人的死期一到，又没有办法补救，也从不见有人从阴府回来。 2 For haphazard were we born, and hereafter we shall be as though we had not been; Because the breath in our nostrils is a smoke and reason is a spark at the beating of our hearts, 我们原是偶然而生，过后我们又好象未曾生存过；我们鼻中的气息只是一阵烟雾，思想亦不过是心动迸出的火花； 3 And when this is quenched, our body will be ashes and our spirit will be poured abroad like unresisting air. 火花一旦熄灭，身躯即变成灰土，魂魄即像轻风消散。 4 Even our name will be forgotten in time, and no one will recall our deeds. So our life will pass away like the traces of a cloud, and will be dispersed like a mist pursued by the sun's rays and overpowered by its heat. 我们的名字，随时被人遗忘，无人追念我们的工作；我们的生命消逝，有如一丝浮云，又如为日光所驱散，被热力所蒸化的烟雾。 5 For our lifetime is the passing of a shadow; and our dying cannot be deferred because it is fixed with a seal; and no one returns. 实在，我们的时日，有如疾驰的阴影；我们一死去，再不得返回，因为一经盖印，无人再能返回。 6 Come, therefore, let us enjoy the good things that are real, and use the freshness of creation avidly. 所以，来！让我们享受现有的美福，趁年青及时消受这世界。 7 Let us have our fill of costly wine and perfumes, and let no springtime blossom pass us by; 我们要痛饮美酒，浓施香液，莫让春花空空溜过。 8 let us crown ourselves with rosebuds ere they wither. 在玫瑰花尚未萎谢以前，用来作我们的花冠；【我们要随处享乐，连一块草地也别放过。】 9 1 Let no meadow be free from our wantonness; everywhere let us leave tokens of our rejoicing, for this our portion is, and this our lot. 凡是乐事，我们不要放过，到处要留下我们欢乐的痕迹，因为这是我们的名份，我们的命运。 10 Let us oppress the needy just man; let us neither spare the widow nor revere the old man for his hair grown white with time. 我们要压迫穷苦的义人，不必顾惜寡妇，连白发年高的老人，也不必敬重。 11 But let our strength be our norm of justice; for weakness proves itself useless. 我们的势力，就是正义的法律，因为软弱只呈现自己无用。 12 2 3 Let us beset the just one, because he is obnoxious to us; he sets himself against our doings, Reproaches us for transgressions of the law and charges us with violations of our training. 13 He professes to have knowledge of God and styles himself a child of the LORD. 自夸认识天主，自称是上主的仆人， 14 To us he is the censure of our thoughts; merely to see him is a hardship for us, 自充我们思想的裁判员，我们一见他，就感觉讨厌； 15 Because his life is not like other men's, and different are his ways. 因为他的生活与众不同，他的行径与人两样。 16 He judges us debased; he holds aloof from our paths as from things impure. He calls blest the destiny of the just and boasts that God is his Father. 他竟将我们视作杂种，远避我们的行径，像远避不洁之物；声言义人有幸福的结局，且自夸有天主为父。 17 Let us see whether his words be true; let us find out what will happen to him. 我们且看他的话是否属实，看他究有什么结局。 18 For if the just one be the son of God, he will defend him and deliver him from the hand of his foes. 因为，如果义人是天主的儿子，天主定要帮助他，拯救他脱离敌人的手。 19 With revilement and torture let us put him to the test that we may have proof of his gentleness and try his patience. 来罢！我们用耻辱和酷刑试验他，查看他是否温良，考验他是否忍耐。 20 Let us condemn him to a shameful death; for according to his own words, God will take care of him." 我们判他受可耻的死刑，看他是否蒙受眷顾，如他所说的一样。” 21 These were their thoughts, but they erred; for their wickedness blinded them, 他们这样思想真是荒谬，因为邪恶使他们丧失了理智， 22 And they knew not the hidden counsels of God; neither did they count on a recompense of holiness nor discern the innocent souls' reward. 23 For God formed man to be imperishable; the image of his own nature he made him. 其实天主造了人，原是不死不灭的，使他成为自己本性的肖像； 24 But by the envy of the devil, death entered the world, and they who are in his possession experience it. Most Latin Mss have both forms of this line. 2 [12-20] Often applied to the Passion of our Lord; many have understood these verses as a direct prophecy.
